New Blog @CleverBotanics talks about the legalisation of cannabis is one of the most frequently debated topics of our time and now with EU going against the trend and considering The European Union’s Novel Food Regulations.
This is what happened;
"At present, a novel food application for CBD is under consideration with the European Food Safety Agency (ESFA), to authorise the use of CBD in food supplements for adults with a daily intake of up to 130 mg. The opinion of the ESFA is expected from March 2019. If the application is successful, the European Commission must draft an implementing act authorising the use of the product within seven months. Until a further update from the EU, consumers, vendors and manufacturers may find that the sale of CBD oils, supplements and food is disrupted."
However, we heard one good news for the industry that UK Cannabis Trades Association Challenges the EU’s CBD Classification. Products like CBD oil, also known as cannabis oil or cannabidiol, have soared in popularity. According to the Cannabis Trades Association UK, the number of cannabidiol consumers shot from 125,000 in 2017 to 250,000 in 2018.
What does this mean to CBD producers specifically?
The first, takeaway is that Europe is going to regulate this industry and find as many ways to root out exceptions and loopholes as fast as the industry can try to see them. That means that product production lines also need to be as flexible as possible in sourcing, not to mention batch production.
